Polycomp has a long history of developing high-quality rubber compounds for the automotive industry. In order to serve our customers in this segment we are IATF 16949 certified. We work closely with our customers (OEMs and Tier 1), so that we effectively can respond to the constantly changing technologies. With our compounds, our customers produce all sorts of products, including gaskets, seals and hoses.
Increasingly more stringent emission requirements result amongst others in higher temperatures in and around the engine, stricter norms on permeation of fuels and last but not least in more aggressive fuels, fuel additives and coolants being used. When selecting the proper elastomer type for use in powertrain application, all aspects of the sealing environment (chemicals and temperatures exposed to, static or dynamic sealing requirements) and moulding process must be taken into consideration.
In automotive applications, oil and fuel resistance has always been the primary need. But today, aggressive lubricants, fuels, coolants and low temperature performance can significantly impact the performance of sealing materials. The major powertrain application areas have significantly different operating environments that must be considered in the selection process.
